Panerai: The Diver's Instrument

Founded 1860 – Florence, Italy

Giovanni Panerai opened his first watch shop in Florence in 1860. The brand became a supplier to the Royal Italian Navy, developing the Radiomir (1916) and Luminor (1949) luminous compounds. The Radiomir wristwatch (1936) was created for underwater commandos, featuring a large cushion case, wire lugs, and a sandwich dial. The Luminor (1950s) introduced the iconic crown‑protecting bridge. After decades as a military secret, Panerai began civilian production in 1993, later acquired by Richemont (1997). Today, Panerai is known for robust, legible tool watches with distinctive cushion cases and the “patented” crown lock.

What really stood out to me was how accommodating, professional, and kind Jacob was. Customer service like that is hard to find these days!
I had actually called another jeweler in the same plaza beforehand, and the person I spoke with was extremely rude and unhelpful. The difference in customer service was honestly night and day.
